La edición 2020 del reconocido Festival de Cannes sí se realizará y han revelado la lista de títulos que formarán parte de su Selección Oficial. Aunque estuvo en duda su realización por la cuarentena implementada en Francia, el evento tendrá lugar a principios de julio.

A través de un comunicado, el director del Festival, Thierry Frémaux, señaló que para esta edición se recibieron un total 2067 películas, es decir, 222 más que el año pasado.

Frémaux declaró también que este año 532 directoras presentaron su película a la Selección, cifra que representa el 25.7 por ciento del total de trabajos que se inscribieron, destacando el aumento significativo y la presencia femenina que cada vez cobra mayor fuerza.

“El número de directoras incluidas en la Selección muestra un aumento significativo. Tendremos 16 directoras en la selección. Eran 14 en 2019, 11 en 2018, 12 en 2017, 9 en 2016 y 6 en 2015”, comentó el delegado.

 

El ‘power mexicano’

En el comunicado, el director francés también reconoció el trabajo de cineastas mexicanos como Guillermo del Toro, Alejandro González Iñárritu y Alfonso Cuarón, declarando a México como “un gran país del cine mundial” por ser uno de los más grandes proveedores de películas para el Festival de Cannes.

Para esta ocasión el festival no contará con las habituales secciones de ‘Competencia’, ‘Fuera de Competencia’, ‘Una Cierta Mirada’, ‘Sesiones Especiales’ y ‘Sesiones de Medianoche’, a consecuencia de la pandemia de coronavirus.

Pierre Lescure, presidente del festival, se encargó junto con Thierry de revelar la lista de títulos que formarán parte de Cannes 2020.
