Con video Miss América le dice adiós al bikini y arma polémica
En los concursos de belleza para mujeres era “normal” ver a las participantes en traje de baño, algo que era parte de las competencias y que se les calificaba; pero ahora ya no será así, al menos en Miss América.
Gretchen Carlson, la presidenta de la junta directiva del certamen de belleza, anunció este martes que el concurso ya no tendrá una competencia en trajes de baño.
Carlson dijo que Miss América será una competencia, no un concurso. “Ya no juzgaremos a nuestras candidatas por su apariencia física externa. Eso es enorme”, agregó.
Gretchen expresó que la nueva competencia de Miss América será más inclusiva para las mujeres de “todas las formas y tamaños”.
Por medio de la cuenta oficial de Twitter de Miss América tuiteó un video corto de un bikini blanco que se convierte en una nube de humo con el hashtag #byebyebikini (chao, bikini).

Aunque no todos comparten la misma visión y no aprueban la decisión tomada, pero otros la aplauden.
Haha this is stupid. I don’t know what the hell is going on in our country anymore, but I’d like to say that some traditions are good. Between this, and @boyscouts decision, like, what? What the hell is happening and who told you these were good ideas?

Separate drinking fountains, judging women based on looks, and organizations excluding groups based on gender, orientation, religion, race, etc are not traditions we need. The 1950s are over. Let it go.

No, it's not. It has been altered to allow them to wear whatever they want, however. I'm not saying it's a good change, although I suspect many women will choose to stick with the classic evening gowns.

Great first step, provided the second and immediate next step is getting rid of the entire pageant. The entire idea of a "beauty pageant" (yes, that's what you are) is sexist and offensive - the swimsuit competition was the worst of it, but it is far from the only offensive part.
